El IIT es un centro de medicina experimental que convierte los nuevos conceptos de investigaci\u00f3n en nuevas herramientas de diagn\u00f3stico e intervenciones terap\u00e9uticas para la poblaci\u00f3n local y mundial. Sus programas multidisciplinares de investigaci\u00f3n y formaci\u00f3n sirven para formar a cient\u00edficos y profesionales de la salud. Mediante el trabajo conjunto, el IIT acelera la implantaci\u00f3n de nuevas inmunoterapias como tratamiento habitual. El IIT pretende desarrollar vacunas, terapia g\u00e9nica y terapia celular para mejorar la inmunidad en pacientes con c\u00e1ncer e infecciones cr\u00f3nicas, e inducir la tolerancia en enfermedades autoinmunes y en pacientes que reciben trasplantes convencionales o de bioingenier\u00eda.
