TherVacB: UNA VACUNA TERAPÈUTICA PER CURAR L’HEPATITIS B
La Comissió Europea i TherVacB uneixen forces
El paper de l’hepatitis viral com a amenaça per a la salut pública s’ha subestimat durant molt de temps. Fa molt poc, les Nacions Unides a la seva “Agenda 2030 per al Desenvolupament Sostenible” van demanar accions internacionals per combatre l’hepatitis viral i reduir la càrrega de la malaltia. El principal assassí és el virus de l’hepatitis B (VHB) que causa cirrosi hepàtica i càncer de fetge. A tot el món, més d’1 milió de persones moren cada any a causa de les conseqüències d’una infecció per VHB.
Hi ha disponible una vacuna profilàctica per prevenir la infecció pel VHB, però més del 3% de la població mundial (uns 254 milions d’humans) està infectada crònicament i ja no es beneficia d’aquesta vacuna. Per a aquells que pateixen hepatitis B crònica, fins avui no existeix cap opció de tractament curatiu.
Per tant, la Comissió Europea va seleccionar el projecte TherVacB, liderat per Helmholtz Zentrum München, per a un finançament de set anys dins del programa Horitzó 2020.
Un consorci de viròlegs, immunòlegs i metges líders especialitzats en el tractament de l’hepatitis viral utilitzarà una vacuna terapèutica de disseny recent, TherVacB, com a immunoteràpia per curar el VHB. TherVacB s’avaluarà en un assaig clínic que començarà el juny de 2025 i es durà a terme a Europa i a l’Àfrica. La integració d’un lloc soci a Tanzània ajudarà a construir capacitats locals per diagnosticar i tractar l’hepatitis B i recolzarà un objectiu important del consorci: sensibilitzar sobre l’hepatitis B.

Some #patients felt little stigma, others a lot. What made the difference? It was language, privacy needs, secrecy.

📘This is one of the 1st such studies in Western Europe. And led by social scientists @bettizimm and colleagues (#TUM) with #TherVacB clinical partners in Munich, Hannover & Leipzig. Stigma, they learned, is about how people perceive and protect their #identity.
